Celebrating Lost Creek - The Story of an African American Settlement
In the early 1800’s, a group of free African Americans settled in Vigo County in order to escape the increased dangers of the South. The Lost Creek Settlement was one of the earliest non-indigenous groups of settlers in the Wabash Valley.
Art Spaces is working with descendants of Lost Creek, as well as various community members and donors, to increase awareness of the settlement and its importance to Terre Haute and Vigo County, through public art.
You, along with others, have the opportunity to honor the Lost Creek Settlement by giving.
You can learn more about the Lost Creek Settlement through Mark Bennett's article in the Tribune-Star, linked here.
